Moira House Junior School is very much part of the main School, but occupies a separate wing of Boston House, and has its own individual identity. We have our own Gymnasium and activities centre, library, lawns and recreational areas outside. We also have our own School pets.
We aim to ensure each girl achieves a high academic standard within a friendly and happy atmosphere. The growth of self-confidence and self-reliance is encouraged to prepare the girls to meet the demand for greater indpendence in the Senior School.
Girls may enter the Day Nursery from 2.5 and progress through Kindergarten to the main School between 4.5 and 5 years. In the first four forms girls spend the majority of their time with the form teacher, but follow a broad curriculum which includes French, Computing, Art, Music, Drama, P.E. and Swimming, in addition to placing great importance on the National Curriculum core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science.
In the top two forms (9-11 years) the girls receive specialist teaching in all these subjects. This provides useful continuity and preparation for 11+ Common Entrance which girls sit as an entrance examination to the Senior School.
At lunch time and after school there are 20 different activities including Choir, Orchestra, Netball, Cycling Proficiency, Chess, Pets Club, Christian Union.
The School day finishes at 3.45 p.m followed after tea by a 45 minute supervised study period for girls of 7 years upwards. Most day girls go home at 4.45 p.m but there are facilities for girls to stay until 7.30 p.m with the boarders, enjoying activities and supper at no extra cost. The Day Nursery is open 48 weeks a year from 8.00 - 5.30 p.m. We offer weekly and full boarding for girls of 8 upwards.
